Private Residence Boerum Hill, Brooklyn/3 Story Row House. 2700 sf.
Originally built in the 1890s, what ensued was a full gut renovation of the three-story structure and new 4th floor for the master suite under a standing-seam copper mansard roof for a family of four. Katherine was hired for full service interior design including most architectural finishes and hardware. While the design aesthetic was approached with a modern intention, much of the original detailing was recreated or reinterpreted to retain aspects of the classic beauty of the original house. Equal attention was given to creating formal spaces for entertaining, comfortable family living spaces and kid play space. The whimsical aesthetic of the client was an important aspect of the interior design allowing for the odd interplay of textures, moody and bold color combinations, and the mix of obscure mid century designed furniture and lighting, all reflective of their irreverent, fun-loving personalities. The results is a personalized family home that is refreshingly unformulaic.
