Private Residence Garrison, NY/ The Garrison House - Eco Retreat. 900 sf.
Constructed atop the foundation of an abandoned house and adjacent to a traditional clapboard barn, this project in New York’s Hudson Valley is both surprisingly contemporary and genuinely engaged with its context. The southeast side of the two-story is clad in salvaged Douglas fir and a pitched roof; the opposite facade is installed with fully retractable sliding doors that dramatically connect the outdoors to within.
Katherine was commissioned to work frugally within the house’s diminutive dimension selecting furnishings, lighting, textiles and objects for their restrained form and function. Environmentally sensitive sourcing was practiced and items selected celebrate the natural landscape, local materials and artisans to further the blurring between indoor and out.
